Two days after it ended, and I’m still not really recovered from 4 full days of Wizard World Comic Con. By the time it ended on Sunday, my throat hurt, in fact everything hurt, and I was stupidly exhausted. Think I was in bed by 8pm. And Chipotle for dinner that night was a significant step up from what I’d been eating for the duration. Healthy habits go out the window, let me tell you. But there were lots of great moments, I got to meet some awesome people, and see some folks who came to visit me after meeting me at other cons. (You know who you are, and I love you all.) :) I sold a ton of t-shirts, which was exciting. And don’t forget the obligatory strange and bizarre. Nothing surprises me at Comic Con anymore, on ANY front. Here’s a few of my favorite pics of costumes from the weekend… (They’re not all great photos, but you’ll certainly get the idea.)

From the Bat-Cave to Chicago Comic Con

I would LOVE to tell you what I have been so very, very busy with all summer that has kept me in my bat-cave studio at all hours of the day and night until I forgot that I was missing summer. However, I cannot just yet. Sorry. (Though I’m thoroughly champing at the bit!)

I have a lot on the horizon and a few new pieces that I just uploaded onto the portfolio page, so be sure to check them out. For now, here’s some fun from 2011 Chicago Comic Con, which was a fantastic time of meeting amazing fans and artists. I always come away completely exhausted and inspired, relieved to get some sleep and a proper hot meal, but sad that it has to end. Enjoy the pictures!

Another fun and exhausting comic convention wrapped up Sunday night. After three crazy days of meeting awesome fans, spectators and artists, I’m always ready to go home, curl up in the fetal position, and sleep for two days straight to feel normal again. Of course, obligations and responsibilities don’t allow that little indulgence, so here I am to share some of my personal highlights from the weekend!

First off, between the intricate costumes and the public in general, there’s some fantastic people-watching to be had. I don’t always know who they mean to be due to my weak pop-culture knowledge bank, but they are fun to watch and generally happy to pose for a quick picture as they passed my table in Artists Alley.

Second, I got to have a rare super-nerdy-fan-girl moment. My lack of pop-culture awareness usually keeps me pretty ambivalent toward celebrities, but there are certain things that I am willing to big-time wave my nerd flag on, such as my love for Battlestar Galactica. And who happened to be at C2E2 signing autographs, but the dashingly handsome Tahmon Penikett who played Lieutenant Karl “Helo” Agathon, and who is even better looking in person.

I got the chance to meet him and he was a very cool guy. I was able to give him a print of one of my pieces and had my picture taken with him and let me tell you, I was the stupid star-struck girl to a ‘T.’ Pretty sure that I didn’t mutter two intelligent worlds, and there may have been drool involved. Not a moment I’m particularly proud of, but definitely worth it. Sure hope the print didn’t end up in the trash after he finished wondering what was wrong with that weird girl.

Last was the over-all experience of being in the Artists Alley. My neighbor was the talented Jay Fosgitt who was an absolutely wonderful guy. Check out his work and comic book here. Having great neighbors certainly helps to have a pleasant time. From the table, it was a sight to see to watch the masses of people try to push through and around each other by the artists tables as they crowded through in waves. It’s makes me happy that so many people came by to appreciate the hard work that so many artists devote to the comic book genre. I met some amazing folks who gave me some great and sometimes amusing feedback on my work, and even sold out of a few prints before the end of Sunday.

Packing up is always a little surreal and sad when I have to say goodbye to the table neighbors I met and wish them luck with their art. But boy am I happy to get home and have a real warm meal and relax. Now I’m mentally making lists of all the things I need to get done in the weeks and months ahead. The next convention I’m taking part in isn’t going to be until August, so watch for more info on that as the date approaches. By that time, I should have plenty of new prints available for you to check out. Now, what’s first on that list…
