It’s been too long.

General, Illustration, News 3 Comments

I must apologize for being away so long. The minute I stop paying attention things seem to start going a little batty in the web world, as my portfolio page isn’t operating the way it should and I’m getting junk-bot comments up the wazu. But I’m back to update you on what I’ve been up to for the last month.

The last few weeks have included wrapping up a few new projects and showing in a few Chicago-area galleries. I’m also looking into the best way to sell my prints online, so keep an eye out for updates on that in the next week or two.

The spectacular Shepard High School Speech Team in Palos Heights, IL had me design a t-shirt for them, which was a lot of fun. They are the Astro’s, so we went with the space theme.

The next piece I finished was for the gallery show in my hometown of Harvard, IL, where they’ve lost funding for the art’s program for the fifth grade public school class. This show was meant to raise funds to try to keep the program alive. Why the Arts are always cut first just gets my blood boiling, but I digress.

This print is of the Hans Christian Andersen story of ‘The Real Princess,’ or more commonly known as ‘The Princess and the Pea.’ I had two reasons for my inspiration to illustrate this story. One, I just got a new mattress set, which was completely normal sized in the store, but in my house, it’s big. I mean, when I sit on it, my feet dangle without touching the ground big, and this story immediately popped into my head. Second, when I was in art school, I took a storybook illustrating class where my primary project was to illustrate this story as a children’s book, and I completely dropped the ball on it. It was a project I didn’t put much time into, and was embarrassed to call my own. So this was my chance to redeem myself.

Right now I am researching and sketching for some new projects. I am going to continue with a series of illustrations of classic stories and tales, and will keep you posted with my progress. I promise more frequently than once a month. That being said, time to get busy!

I love it!! They are so different in style, but both are indisputably yours. Great work!

These are both so awesome! I can’t believe I missed the show…I can’t wait to see your other “classic stories and tales” one. I think the “Red Shoes” story would be totally up your alley. One of my favorites, it’s SO sick.

Lynell! How is everything going! Love the site and congratz with sticking with the art. I am finally getting the hang of working full time, being a husband, and father…and an artist.

    hit me up!

would love to hear about your experiences at the Chicago Show!
